What did you do this past week?
This week I’ve mostly been doing homework and getting my schedule and workflow set up for this semester. In terms of this class, I got my Gitlab set up for the Collatz project and just started downloading/trying out Docker.

What’s in your way?
I watched a lot of Netflix shows during the break and still have a few that I’m in the middle of. It’s definitely hard stopping once you’ve started a show, so I hope I can keep a good balance between schoolwork and watching these shows — and also that I won’t start anymore now that classes are picking up.

What will you do next week?
I plan to get a good amount of work done for the Collatz project this week and hopefully stay on top of my homework since I’m going to be attending a virtual summit for the next few weeks. Recently, I’ve also wanted to get more into web development, so I’m hoping to make more progress in that area.

If you read it, what did you think of the makefile?
I’ve seen makefiles before in OS last semester, but I’ve never really read one thoroughly until now. I have to admit, it was pretty confusing and everything seemed like a foreign language at first, but once I really took the time to process the information it wasn’t too bad.

What was your experience with Docker? (this question will vary, week to week)
I haven’t used Docker yet since I just downloaded it, but the setup was a bit troublesome since my computer wouldn’t open Docker Desktop the first time I downloaded it.

What was your experience of assertions? (this question will vary, week to week)
I’ve had a bit of experience with assertions in C in OS last semester, and we mostly used them to help with debugging where the issue was.

What was your experience with unit tests? (this question will vary, week to week)
I’ve never used or heard of the Google tests until Professor Downing mentioned these, but they seem very useful and applicable to real-world situations.

What made you happy this week?
My favorite thing to do is to shop at Target’s Bullseye’s Playground section and a little over a week ago I bought a cute grow-your-own strawberries kit for $3 there. I didn’t think anything would actually happen, but this week 4 seeds have begun germinating! I’m hoping more continue to grow because I love plants, but I’m usually too busy to actually take care of live ones. Here’s how they’re doing so far :)

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
I recently started self-learning React and have found this playlist on YouTube to be really helpful for beginners. I was told videos 1–12, 17, 18, 20 are good ones to start with, and I’m currently on 10. Also, my tip-of-the-week is to not download Node.js from multiple sources because I accidentally did this and spent a few not-so-fun hours trying to fix everything.
